Structure of Forming Passives with Modals

Affirmative FormObject + may, must, can, could, ought to, should + be + verb3 + by + Object.Pronoun.
Interrogative FormMust, may, can, should, might + object + be + verb3 (past participle) + By Object.Pronoun.
Negative FormObject + may, must, can, could, ought to, should + not + be + verb3 + by + Object.Pronoun.

Examples:

1. Our Math teacher may give an exam today. (Active Voice)

An exam may be given by our Math teacher today. (Passive voice)

2. Sara has written many books. (Active Voice)

Many books have been written by Sara. (Passive voice)

3. Do you have to pay the bill before leaving the restaurant? (Active Voice)

The bill has to be paid before leaving the restaurant? (Passive voice)

4. Raza can give them some information about the job. (Active Voice)

Some information can be given about the job by Raza. (Passive voice 1)

They can be given some information about the job by Raza. (Passive voice 2)

5. You ought to help her. (Active Voice)

She ought to be helped by you. (Passive voice)

6. You must not break the traffic rules. (Active Voice)

The traffic rules must not be broken. (Passive voice)

7. Can he drive a Car? (Active Voice)

Can a car be driven by him? (Passive voice)

8. May she eat an apple? (Active Voice)

May an apple be eaten by her? (Passive voice)

9. Might she kill the snake? (Active Voice)

Might the snake be killed by her? (Passive voice)

10. Should I buy this hat? (Active Voice)

Should this hat be bought by me? (Passive voice)

11. Must he learn this book? (Active Voice)

Must this book be learnt by him? (Passive Voice)
