What is Equal and Equivalent Sets? - Chapter 1

Equal and Equivalent Sets

In Today’s Student Tube lecture we will discuss about Equal and Equivalent Sets from Exercise 1.1 – Chapter 1 (9 & 10 Mathematics – Sindh Board Education)

EQUAL SETS:
Equal sets are those sets which have exact same elements but they could be out of order.

For Example:

A={1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
B={5, 4, 3, 2, 1}

Both sets have exact same elements thats why A is Equal to B set. Symbolicaly (A=B)

EQUIVALENT SETS:Equivalent sets have different elements but the number of elements in sets are same.

Example:

A={1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
B={a, b, c, d, e}

Both sets have 5 number of elements but the elements of sets are different so A is the Equivalent set of B. Symbolicaly (A~B)
